We’re demystifying the Level 2 Adult Social Care Certificate and explaining why this new and industry-altering certificate isn’t something we as a sector can approach with a “fully remote” learning model.
Understanding the Level 2 Adult Social Care Certificate
The Level 2 Adult Social Care Certificate is a nationally recognised qualification designed to provide a baseline standard for care workers. It replaces the previous Care Certificate and offers a more structured and comprehensive approach to training and assessment, which is portable. The certificate covers essential knowledge and skills required to support individuals effectively in adult social care settings.
The Importance of Face-to-Face Assessment
A blended approach to learning is important. One of the key aspects that often causes confusion is the requirement for direct, face-to-face observation as part of the assessment process. To achieve the full Level 2 Adult Social Care Certificate, learners must undergo a minimum of two face-to-face observations conducted by their assessor.
This requirement is essential for several reasons:
- Demonstrating Practical and “Soft” Skills: Many of the competencies required for this qualification involve practical skills that cannot be assessed through remote methods. Direct observation will allow our assessors to evaluate our learners’ ability to apply their new-found knowledge in real-world care settings and demonstrate those all-important soft skills.
- Safeguarding and Quality Assurance: Face-to-face assessment helps to ensure that our learners have the necessary skills and knowledge to provide safe and effective care. It also enables us to raise and maintain the high standards we strive for within the adult social care sector.
- Compliance with Awarding Body Requirements: Awarding bodies have specific guidelines for assessment, and direct observation is a crucial component of meeting these standards.
Coleman Training’s Commitment to Quality
At Coleman Training, we are committed to adhering to the strict guidelines set by awarding bodies and upholding the highest standards of assessment. We offer a range of learning solutions, including trainer-led video learning to support the needs of our learners.
Self-directed learning can be helpful for developing knowledge, however face-to-face observation is also essential to ensure that all learners have the opportunity to fully meet the requirements of the awarding organisation, as well as the opportunity to get face-to-face support from their assessor.
We also understand that many learners have the sinking feeling of “I don’t know where to start” when it comes to writing assignments and enrolling on qualifications to upskill in their careers and that’s why, when learners choose to do their Level 2 Adult Social Care Certificate with Coleman Training, we include free access to our Study Skills Workshop. Read what Chelsea Wallace has to say about how this workshop can help.
By understanding the requirements of this qualification and the importance of face-to-face assessment, you can ensure that your staff receive the appropriate training and support to deliver truly person-centred, high-quality care.
