Control of Substances Hazardous to Health (COSHH)

Module 1: Understanding which substances are harmful: This module provides participants with a comprehensive understanding of hazardous substances commonly encountered in the workplace, along with their associated risks. We will cover understanding hazard symbols, labelling requirements and discuss what should be included on a COSHH data sheet. 

Module 2: Control Measures and Safe Handling Practices: Participants gain insights into selecting and implementing appropriate control measures to minimize exposure to hazardous substances. Topics include engineering controls, administrative controls, safe handling procedures, and the use of personal protective equipment (PPE). 

Module 3: Storage of Hazardous Substances: This module covers best practices for safely storing hazardous substances. Participants learn about storage requirements, compatibility considerations, labelling protocols, and procedures for handling spills or emergencies. 

Module 4: Assessing Risk: This module focuses on the systematic assessment of risks associated with hazardous substances in the workplace. Participants learn to identify potential hazards, evaluate exposure routes, and assess the likelihood and severity of adverse health effects. Emphasis is placed on using risk assessment tools and methodologies to inform the development of effective control measures.
